Liz Trevino, Medical Assistant Supervisor at Airline Children & Women’s Health Center, has been named an Immunization Champion. She is one of only 48 people chosen in the country this year.
This is a national award. It comes from the Association of Immunization Managers and is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It honors people who do more than their job asks to protect their communities through vaccines. One winner is chosen for each state, city, and territory that takes part — 48 in all this year.

What this means for your child’s vaccines
A national award can sound far away from an exam room. It isn’t. Liz won this award for the way she manages the vaccine program for Vecino’s Airline Children & Women’s Health Center. If you bring your children here, the work being honored is the work happening at your visit.
Your child’s immunization records are checked twice. Liz built a system where the team looks up your child’s record before the visit, then updates it again after any shots are given. That means fewer missed shots and fewer repeat shots. It also means the record is ready when a school, daycare, or sports team asks for it.
Vaccines are stored the right way. Vaccines only work if they are kept cold at the right temperature. The team monitors the refrigerators and checks the equipment every day. Health officials routinely inspect the vaccine program at Airline and have found no issues.
Vaccines are available. The clinic team continuously monitors vaccine inventory to assure that vaccines are available at all times, including the busy back-to-school season.
The whole team is trained. Liz goes to trainings and teaches what she learns to every medical assistant she leads. The person who gives your child a shot knows the latest guidelines.

Liz is quick to say this is not a one-person job. She has spent years making sure the whole team treats vaccines as a priority, not just one person’s job.
