Pediatrician, Vecino Health Centers 

Dr. Saavedra has always wanted to be a pediatrician and found her ideal career at Vecino. Since her start in 2015, her focus has been on serving her community with compassion, educating families about mental and physical health, and creating a safe space for all. Dr. Saavedra was recognized in 2018 as “Doctor of the Year” by Kids Developmental Clinic – North Location.

American Board of Pediatrics - I am certifiedEducation — Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Saavedra received her medical degree from UT Southwestern in Dallas. She completed her residency at The University of Texas Medical School in Houston. Before her medical training, Dr. Saavedra attended Rice University in Houston, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Sciences. While at Rice, she was awarded the Alan Grob Prize for community service for volunteering on medical mission trips to Mexico and Kenya and as a Spanish interpreter at Memorial Hermann hospital.

Background — Dr. Saavedra was born in Peru and immigrated to San Antonio, TX with her parents when she was 3 years old. She knows many of the hardships that recent immigrants face including poverty, English as a second language, and living in two cultures. For these reasons, her passion has been to serve underserved communities like the one in which she was raised. She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics which allows her to keep up to date with innovations in healthcare.

At Airline Children & Women’s Health Center, Dr. Saavedra provides general and preventative pediatric evaluation and management, including well-check exams and sick visits to children from birth through age 17. She has experience in treating a variety of conditions including asthma, ADHD, developmental delay, and unhealthy weight as well as the common infectious diseases of childhood. Dr. Saavedra is fluent in English and Spanish.
